Two female Students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri‘s School Of Agricultural Technology (SAAT) two days ago got involved in a nasty fight that ended up with one of them biting the other's nose off.

An eye witness confirmed that it started with a demand by one of them to fetch some water (for their work) but she objected with a vulgar response.

The girl who had her nose bitten allegedly launched the first attack by pulling the other girl's hair. The fight got heated and she got bitten.

After the drama, the bleeding victim was rushed to the school clinic and immediately referred to the
Federal Medical Centre Owerri, for proper and effective treatment and surgery and to help the bleeding.

For bleeding to stop, the medical team at FMC had to cut some flesh from her laps.

The matter is still under strong investigation by the school authorities.

I’m sure you must be familiar with the popular phrase, “Ghana Must Go”?

Not talking about the bag, but the incident that brought about the phrase where Ghanaians were being deported from Nigeria back to their country in the early 1980s.
Historic pictures of Ghanaians returning to their country after being expelled by Nigeria has surfaced online.

You can see Ghanians being deported from the ship deck in Lagos on Feb 2, 1983 as they prepared to sail back to their country.
In the 1970s, Ghana was facing a lot of economic hardships, just about the same time Nigeria had an oil boom, Nigeria’s economy was flourishing. Citizens of some West African countries (mostly Ghanians) flocked into Nigeria in search of greener pastures .

In a similar vain, oil prices dropped in the 1980s and the revenue from foreign exhange dropped drastically due to the over-reliance of Nigeria on oil. There were no jobs and the hardship started, hence, the need to expell the Ghanaians that were straining the Nigerian resources.

Other foreign African nationals had to leave too. The Federal Government endorsed the expulsion of 700,000 Ghanaians. They all packed their properties in a particular bag and till date the bag is still being referred to as the “Ghana Must Go” bags.

Real Madrid star forward, Cristiano Ronaldo is one player whose future outside the game has been the object of much speculation.

The 31-year-old even went as far as to state that he would not be getting into coaching or football management when he eventually retires from the game that has brought him immense fame fortune, maintaining that he would like his break from the game to be total.
However, the Portuguese international has given a hint into what he would most likely be doing after hanging his boots.
In an interview with Portuguese fashion magazine, Sacoor Brothers Ronaldo said he would like to go into acting.
Recall that the prolific forward recently starred in a documentary movie named after himself.
He said: “I would like to learn being surrounded by good actors because only then will I learn since it is an area I do not control because it has nothing to do with football.
“Why not? It’s not my goal at the moment, but I have had some invitations.
“Do not close the doors because it is an area which I like.”
But he said he still has much more to offer to the beautiful game on the pitch, declaring “I feel good, I feel young, so I want to continue.”
Other footballers who have also gone into acting after their retirement include Manchester United legend, Eric Cantona, who has acted in many movies, and former Wimbledon FC defender, Vinnie Jones.

Cute kid.....who knew he would be doing what he is currently doing in the music industry today?

The Ghana Immigration Service has rescued 42 children who were being trafficked to Nigeria from Tatale and its surrounding communities in the Northern region. The children were aged between 10 and 17 years.

Two persons were arrested over the crime. The suspects identified as Paul Waabem, 24 a Ghanaian from Tatale, resident in Nigeria, and Moses Yaw Kumah, 27, a Togolese, who also lives in Nigeria were remanded in prison custody and reappeared in court yesterday, February 23, 2016. Thirty-three of the children were rescued first and nine others later.
The Northern Regional Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Assistant Director of Immigration (ADI), Mr Eric Afari,(pictured) who disclosed this in Tamale on Saturday, February 20, said the command had intensified its border patrols in the eastern corridor of the Northern Region to clamp down on the activities of child traffickers.
He said child trafficking was on the ascendency in the area and, therefore, appealed to residents in the area to assist the service with credible information to track down child traffickers in the area.

Afari was speaking during the visit of members of the GIS Board. The team was led by its chairman, Mr Cletus Avoka (pictured) Members of the GIS board interacted with officers and men of the service in the Northern Region to know their operational challenges and how best they could be resolved.

Mr Afari said the command faced a lot of logistical constraints, including means of transport, the problems of inadequate number of offices and lack of residential accommodation, which together are hampering their operations in the region.
Increase in approved routes.

He called for an increase in the approved routes in the area since the stretch from Oti-Damanko to Nakpanduri was a ‘weak link’ because there were only three officially gazetted entry points which were outnumbered by the unapproved crossing points on the stretch. The stretch constituted the gateway to the inflow of criminal elements, Fulani herdsmen, arms proliferation and the smuggling of contrabands.

The Director of Immigration, Mr Felix Yaw Sarpong, charged personnel at the various entry points of the country to eschew extortion and other negative practices that had the tendency to tarnish the image of the service and send bad signals to foreigners such as investors and tourists.
Mr Afari cautioned parents who give their children to foreigners to be sent away for monetary gains, to desist from such acts warning that anyone caught would be severely punished.

There was outrage on Tuesday by pensioners of the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State after a local government pensioner, identified as Sunday Oboite, slumped and died during screening.

It was learnt that Oboite, 75, died at the reception of the local government secretariat.

The late pensioner, who retired from the Works department of the council, was at the secretariat for screening which the council had directed the pensioners to undertake before they would be paid their 10-month pension arrears.

He was offered a bottle of beverage and some water by a Good Samaritan after he complained of
hunger.

He, however, slumped at about 1.20pm, before he was confirmed dead by some doctors at the council.

According to a source, his death sparked a protest among other pensioners, who were enraged by what had befallen their colleague.

The source said:
“Some of them complained that they had presented themselves for screening at the secretariat at about 8am, but were later informed to go to Urhokpota Hall, about 100 metres away. They also decried the delay in the exercise, which took hours before it commenced.”
The Chairman of the council, Mrs. Sweet Ikpomwosa, could not be reached for comments.

The Secretary of Oredo Pensioners Association, Mr. James Erhunmense, said that the late Oboite had arrived at the venue of the exercise alone and complained of not having any money to buy food and drugs.

He also said that the late pensioner was unable to go to the designated hall with his colleagues but chose to wait at the reception due to tiredness.

Another pensioner, James Omorogbe, said the computers used for the screening were always shutting down, adding that it took the death of their colleague for the council to provide them with chairs.

He said the death of Oboite could have been avoided if the council officials had prepared for the screening.

“Sunday said he had no money to buy food and drugs. For 10 months now, we have not been paid. Many others have died without collecting their benefits,” Omorogbe added.

A drunken plane passenger on a flight from India to Birmingham shocked passengers when he pulled down his trousers and urinated in the aisle.

“About 40 minutes prior to landing he removed his trousers and stood in the aisle.
The hospital porter named Jinu Abraham, 39, had to be restrained until the plane had landed after being aggressive to cabin crew.

John Cardiff, prosecuting, said Abraham had boarded the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner on January 19 this year with his 10-year-old son.

During the flight he had become aggressive after drinking alcohol, refusing a request to return to his
seat, the Birmingham Mail reports.

There also came a point when cabin staff refused to serve him any more booze because of his state and he was warned about his behaviour.
“He pulled down his boxer shorts exposing his buttocks and then began urinating on the floor and seat of the aircraft.
He was restrained by crew with plastic handcuffs and seat belts for the rest of the flight and was arrested on landing.”
Mr Cardiff said the estimated cause of the damage was £500.

When later quizzed Abraham said he had drunk two whiskies, that he was on anti depressants and could not remember anything about his actions.

Alan Newport, defending, said both the defendant and his wife, who had been married for 11 years, worked for the NHS. His wife is a theatre nurse.

He said he had been on medication after one of his children died at birth and that his wife had already returned from India on a separate flight with their 15- month-old child.
“Unfortunately because of a mix up at the airport in India his medication had been placed in the hold. He was without medication and nervous about flying and was concerned about his wife’s welfare.
He effectively tried to self medicate and it went dramatically wrong, not just for him, but the passengers on that flight. Fortunately no one was injured and the flight was able to land without an emergency request.
He was shocked and surprised about what was said about his behaviour. He accepts it must have been incredibly upsetting for passengers and crew and possibly frightening for those people on board in that confined environment.”
Jinu was fined £300 at Birmingham Magistrates Court. He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation, a victim surcharge of £30 and £185 costs.
